I went running with Logan's little sister who was in town for New Year's.  It was fun but we were both tired so we didn't run very much.

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

I decided to start out slow and then progress a little each mile.  At the end I was going at 8mph ( on the treadmill) and that speed actually felt better than the 5mph I started at.  How exciting! Maybe i'm getting faster...who knows.  I will actually start my triathlon training next week.

Nice job. I can only dream about running 5 miles. Hopefully it will become a reality by the time I have to run 5 in Moab. Good speed, too. Logan might have some competition if you keep it up.

i'm not sure about the milage...i just went to the gym and hammered out a hour on the spinning bikes. i think spinning is even worse than running on a treadmill. yuck! it's just kind of frustrating when you bike for an hour and haven't moved an inch! :O) well anyhoo, it felt good and i'm excited to actually start my training. next up is swimming tomorrow. i decided to take a class so i would have to get in the pool ( that's the hardest part for me ). now i'm thinking it might not be such a good idea because the class will be doing different drills and yardages then the ones i need to stay on track. i'm going to see if the teacher will let me just do my own thing...if not, oh well. i'll still get a workout. welp, see ya later.

You have to be really motivated to go to the gym and spin for an hour. Nice work today! I hope the swimming goes well.

once again i don't know exactly what yardage i swam but i think it was 1000 yards or 1/2 a mile (i think). i just took it slow and worked on my form. it took a while to get back in the rhythm since i didn't swim at all during the holidays. it felt really good though. i love being in the water. i also got an email from my old swim teacher from last semester. she does triathlons and is going to help me get a training schedule put together and maybe help me train a little. that will help me a lot. i'm excited!

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

i got smart this time and brought reading material to entertain me while i road the bike. it was actually my homework so maybe "entertain" isn't quite the right word. it kept me from looking at the clock every five seconds so i guess it worked. next time i will need to bring a towel! i have never sweat so much in my life...people were staring. i pretended in my head that they were all staring because i was the best biker they had ever seen. that also helped pass the time.

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

i had my first swim class today and it went well. there are a lot of people in the class so it's kind of hard to swim in each lane but oh well. i found it did push me to go faster to have someone behind me. that's all for the bike and swim this week...now on to running for friday and saturday. :O)

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

i took it easy today on the treadmill.  it felt great! i never realized how much cross-training helps you improve.  since i have swam and biked all week i felt like running was so much easier and i could have run a lot further if i had had the time.  i highly recommend x-training! that's about it.

Comments
From Jon on Fri, Jan 11, 2008 at 17:01:22

Plus, cross training can help you feel more excited to run, since you do a variety of exercises and avoid burnout at just one thing. Nice job.

woo-hoo! i broke my 5 mile barrier! it felt good while i was running and then i about died afterwards. i don't know how i ever ran a marathon before! i guess i am just getting old or something. i think what helped me run the 6 miles was watching one of my favorite movies! i popped in "strictly ballroom" and laughed and cheered the whole time. (i'm such a nerd!) i made logan watch it with me later and he thought it was the dumbest movie but deep down i know he loved it. welp, that's about it.

I had a great workout today! I did an easy 15 min. warm-up on the bike and then ran a mile at an easy pace. Then continued to alternate 10 min bike and 1 mile run 3x. Each set I tried to go just a little bit faster. It was really good for me to feel the transition from bike to run...it's going to take some getting used to. I think everyone in the gym thought I couldn't make up my mind which to exercise on the treadmill or the bike? I am quite indecisive (you can ask Logan) so maybe that's why i like this workout so much. The last mile I did on the indoor track and I felt like I was flying. I have been on stationary things for so long it felt nice to have the wind in my hair. Welp, that's it...feeling good.

swam agian today.  man it felt good.  i really pushed myself and did a hard workout and it went really well.  i think i can push myself harder next time.

when i swim i always breathe on my right side and it makes my neck a little stiff sometimes.  so today i decided to learn how to alternate my breathing in hopes that it would eliminate my neck discomfort.  no such luck! now both sides are stiff and hurt! oops.  oh well...i'll go run and it will loosen up.

i did not run today like i had planned to.  i got home and our water was not working.  after freaking out and thinking our pipes were frozen we found out that a main water line had burst and no one in our neighborhood had water.  we were relieved that we did not have to pay for a plumber but still bumbed about no water.  logan still ran becuase he was at the school and could shower.  i opted out of the run today becuase i was driving to st.george with a bunch of girls and i didn't think they would appreciate my stinky body next to them.

i did 3 miles at 9:30-10min. mile pace and then did the last mile at about 8:30-9min pace. it felt ok. my hip has been bothering me so i didn't want to push it too much. i think the stupid spinning bikes at usu messed me up. maybe i'll just stay off them for a while and kind of go easy on my workouts. my mom just got her hip replaced last year and i don't ever want to go through that! i just signed up for my first triathlon so i had to keep training. i am way excited but nervous for it too. it is on march 29th and hopefully logan doesn't have a race that day so he can come watch (and know how it feels to be me waiting for him on a race day!!! waiting and waiting and waiting!!!) equally as hopefully i hope this hip thing doesn't get in the way. :O)

today was so hard!! she had us swim 75 yrds and then do push-ups or sit-ups lunges...we did probably 6 or 7 sets of this. it burned but in a good way. i think it's what i needed to get me back on track. my hip didn't hurt at all! that was the best part. well, i hope it's good weather this weekend because i'll have to run outside!

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

it was a semi-nice day so i got to run outside. i had to manage my way through snowy sidewalks and puddles but it was fun. i had to run almost in the middle of the street at times because the snow drifts were too big. i also had to take a potty-break at our cousins house. boy am i glad she was home. i could tell the air quality was pretty bad today because the air smelled like fire-crackers and i had bad asthma afterwards. despite the set-backs it was a good run and just felt good to be outside! at least i did not encounter a moose like logan did!!

Running MilesSwimming YardsBike Miles

well this was an eventful workout to say the least! i did not have swim class today so I decided to run in the field house at usu. i planned to run 3 miles but noticed it was really hard for me and by the time i reached 1.5 miles I could hardly breath. so i stopped and walked for a while. as i was walking i noticed my vision was getting blurry and my eyes were itching like crazy. then they started to swell up to the point where i just had two slits for eyes. i finally decided to stop and take a look at myself in the mirror. i looked like i have huge blisters all over my eyelids. then the scary part....my throat started to close up. i called my dad to come pick me up and take me to the hospital. as soon as i left the building my breathing got better. the emergency room put me on all sorts of allergy medicine and i slept for about 3 hours...it was great! they have no clue what it could have been that triggered the reaction so they just let me go when the swelling went down. my eye is still swollen a bit but i'm feeling much better. so i ran for 1.5 miles and slept for 3 hours. i think they cancels each other out. I told the doctor that i much just be allergic to running...he didn't think it was very funny. i laughed. we'll see if i can run tomorrow! it all was pretty funny to me...i should have taken pictures! oh well. i hope you all had a good laugh too. c/ya later!
